Description

Happy New Scope day to me!

I've been contemplating adding a bigger scope to my "collection". My attempts with the fast Newtonians have been a mixed bag, resulting in a lot of frustration over less-than-perfect collimation, poorly illuminated fields and various technical failures (everything from screws falling out, the focuser getting lose, spider snapping, etc).

Still, I wanted to be able to "reach" those smaller targets, like galaxies and even planets. Since I have been very happy with my Esprit 100, the Esprit 150 seemed like a natural choice.

Suffice it to say, I was pretty shocked when I opened the box...this thing is massive. Sure, an 8" Newtonian is bigger, on paper at least - but in person, it's a different story. The CEM70g will probably handle this beast ok, but I can already see how something like a CEM120 would be "better". But that really puts me in the realm of "permanent setup", which is not in cards just yet.

First light to follow (whenever the clouds decide to bugger off).
