Description

Cederblad 51 is comprised of two blue reflection nebula surrounded by the red emission nebula GN 05.30.0, all embedded in the much larger Sh2-264, (itself known as Lambda Orionis Ring or the Anglefish Nebula).   The entire image is in the northern part of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex, forming the head of Orion between the well known Orion stars Betelgeuse and Bellatrix in a field filled with dust and HII throughout.  In this image orientation,  north is down, and the vast majority of Sh2-264 expands to the south (up).   The delicate dark nebula projecting obliquely in a finger-like pattern to the lower right of Ced 51 is Barnard 32, which is itself projecting out of the darker Barnard 31 below; to the left of B31 is the more diffuse B30.  LDN 1583 is the dark nebula to the left of Ced 51.  This image needs a lot more LRGB data to better tease out the dust cloud morphology and color, but that data will likely need to wait until next year.
