      Description

This is my first project ever since I got my rig permanently installed at El Sauce Observatory in Chile. To properly kick it off, I wanted to start with a sky gem that hasn't been so frequently imaged: LBN 917 & its friends - or the "Forgotten Nebulae" as I call it.

Why on earth the "Forgotten Nebulae" you may ask ? Well, as you may probably know (or not yet...), these nebulae are located very close to M42 or IC 2118 > way more famous and more frequently imaged by astrophotographers. On the other hand, LBN 917 and the surroundings objects have been rarely imaged. Hence this quest to kick it off with such a target.

Technical wise, these nebulare are very, very faint. That was quite unexpected. Even with a fast scope like the epsilon 160 ed (F/3.3), and exposures up to 600 sec, details are barely noticable . When I embarked on this journey, I thought my filters had some issues. By thoroughly stretching somes subs, I came to discover the marvel hidden behind the pixels.

Last but not the least, I was (and I am still a bit) also surprised by the color rendering of the RGB combination. I wouldn't have expected so much color popping out. For the record, I did many iterations with SPCC, and other tools, just to make sure that I wasn't doing someting wrong while color calibrating. The different tools and techniques almost gave me the same results. Therefore, I believe it is the way it is. At the end of the day, it all boils down to a matter of personal taste.

I hope you will like it.

Happy to get your feedback, suggestions, and / or whatever you may have in mind.

      CS,
      Aygen
