Description

A widefield photograph of M81, M82, and NGC3077 a.k.a. Bode's, Cigar, and Garland Galaxies, respectively. My main goal for this version was severalfold: 1) continue to learn the characteristics of my new-to-me refractor, 2) get a healthy amount of H-alpha data to complement the LRGB data, and 3) see if the light pollution dome beneath these objects is too overpowering to easily image the integrated flux nebulae in this region of the sky of which I have seen so many beautiful renditions. Goals 1 and 2 were met and the question in the third goal was answered: unfortunately pulling out IFN in this part of the sky (even though during a new moon I'm a dark Bortle 5 (20.4 mag/arcsec^2) as measured at zenith with a Unihedron SQM-L meter. I can see itin the luminance data, so I think that as my Pixinsight skill develop that I will be able to do a better job of pulling it out; perhaps in a future revision to this image.

Imaging occurred on April 15, 19, 21, 22 and May 5 and 12, 2021.
