Description

This is a very deep image which shows the faint outer regions of NGC 2841 galaxy.

The outer halo of the galaxy is brighter in the B channel compared to R and G. Apparently it consists of young hot blue stars.

The galaxy apparent size including the halo on this image is about 14 arcmin. The distance to the galaxy is estimated to be 46 million light years, i.e. the halo is about 180 thousand light years across.

This project took 32 clear nights in November, December 2021 and January 2022.

PhotometricColorCalibration with K0V star as a white reference has been used. This means that the galaxy colors are shifted to the blue part of the spectrum. Using the usual F8V star as white reference has produced a very red galaxy.

This image was an APOD on 3.03.2022.

Enjoy!
