Description

At the end of the planetary season, my first try on Mars. Viewing Conditions had been problematic for weeks, so I was happy to get a few holes in the cloudy skies to get a view on our actually close neighbour.

Missing a Dew-Shield proved to be a real problem though. Holding a hot pan in front of the optics was a desperate but mostly futile try to get rid of the dense mist on the Schmidt-Plate.

However I got two videos with a few thousand frames for lucky imaging. (Next time I should at least do a short dark). I used the post processing I described in my Jupiter image with Pipp,

Autostakkert, Registaxx and Photoshop CS2. Happy, I wrote that down. I would have been lost without those notes 😸

Then followed the obligatory second look. I didn't like the result. Another postprocessing later, this wasn't it either. After long thoughts and discussions, I did a third postprocessing on a second, worse dataset. The result is way less detailed, but somehow more real. Real Mars, I had on a photo shared during the capturing... calling for a collage. Here it is, my first try on Mars 😊 have fun viewing 🖖💝
