Description

Hello astro-friends,

A well known summer target that has been imaged thousands of time…at least 😜 But I couldn’t resist to stop there in the constellation Cygnus and catch photons of this part of a supernova remanent located about 2’000 l-y away. This image is part of my work from 2022 I'm currently publishing here after a long pause.

NGC 6992-6995 is the eastern-most part of the larger Cygnus Loop and shows some beautiful filaments in both hydrogen and oxygen wavelengths, overlapping each others in a very esthetic way. The supernova was about 20 time more massive than our Sun and exploded about 5’000 to 8’000 years ago.

I was able to shot the Western part (aka the Witch's Broom) and the Pickering Triangle last June... but as there is plenty of images I need to upload before, you've to wait a little bit, sorry ;-)

Clear skies to you all.
Christophe
