The 11.8 Days old Moon

When it rarely clears up a little bit, then, either the moon is near full or the air is turbulent or strong wind gusts shake your mount, or, all at the same time. This session could not connect to the fine seeing and calm air of my previous session on March 31st.

For the first time, I threaded the Celestron 0.63x reducer to the visual back and added the Crayford focuser to it. The CF is 100mm long retracted, 125mm at full focuser travel. Considering the flange back of the IMX585 of 12.5mm the reducer's back focus of 105mm(?) is not satisfied and it would be worse with a DSLR. However, theoretically, with a shorter CF you can basically adjust back focus with the CF's 10:1 fine focuser and then focus the image plane with the focuser knob on the SCT.

Anyway, while appreciating the advantage of a faster f-ratio, image resolution drops significantly with a reducer while the focal depth is much shorter. This effect feels stronger with a color camera. The less glass in the path the better, I'd say.

Revision B: The IMX585 sensor is 3840 x 2160 large and when drizzled 1.5x in Autostakkert!3 the resulting image is 5760 x 3240 pixels, almost that of APS-C. A laptop sporting an AMD Ryzen 7 5600 and 16GB memory with all power saving modes temporarily disabled requires about 10 hours for one image (600 of 6000 frames). Am I missing more than just a clear sky? Would an Intel i7 be faster? Hardly.
