Before I went outside I decided that I would try and image NGC 5128. This object is hard to image from my location because it is very low in the sky. I have to catch the object when it is in a gap in the tree line. I only have a short window of time to work with. If I'm lucky I can usually get 30 images before it ducks back into the trees. I was not lucky tonight. I did mange to get 30 images. However two birds decided to check out the light coming from my laptop and flew toward my scope and hovered around a while. I had to trash 9 of my light frames. At first I couldn't tell what was in my images. I remember thinking what in the hell is that. I was thinking it may have been some sort of aircraft in the sky. I ran my mouse slowly over the images and this made a sort of avi. As I ran my mouse over the images I could see wings flapping as they were flying toward my scope and I could see them zig zagging back and forth in front of the scope. However with all of that said I did manage to get an image. I'm sure if I could have gotten more integration time the image would have been better. Anyway please enjoy my most recent image of NGC 5128.

Description: I can't ever leave an image alone. I looked at my image with fresh eyes this morning and decided to completely reprocess it. I did more stretching to try and bring out more of the galaxy.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
