Description

Trying RGB under poor/below average seeing + Bortle 7 + a SCT @ f/10 = do not do this!!!    So, I tried it anyway given the fact that if I wait for the "perfect" night (especially this year with the endless clouds), I would have to consider quitting the hobby.  🥴 Given its brightness, I decided not to use a luminance filter for this object.

An unusual object, NGC 2261 (also known as Hubble's Variable Nebula or Caldwell 46) is a variable nebula located in the constellation Monoceros.  The nebula is illuminated by the star R Monocerotis  which is not directly visible itself. A wonderful image of this object and a more detailed description of it can be found here by my friend, Gary Imm.
