Description

The Cheerio Nebula is a tiny bipolar toroidal planetary nebula in the constellation Scorpius about 5,200 light-years from Earth. It is situated within a vast field of background hydrogen nebulosity and its shape resembles a piece of the breakfast cereal Cheerios hence the name. Although such a small object in my field of view, I was pleased to capture the rings (approx 0.9 arcminutes in diameter) some containing bright cometary knots  and the binary pair of stars in the centre.
