M20 - The Trifid Nebula - first real light of my new scope - the EdgeHD 9.25

M20 was one of the first targets that I lucky imaged back in Y2019 with my Celestron C6 and my Zwo Asi224 MC. I wanted to come back and try to capture a better image.

So I decided this to be my first light target of my new EdgeHD 9.25. I had to move my scope to the part of my terrace which looks east. As it turned out - there is a lot more wind there. And considering that the Trifid rises only to 24 degrees above the horizon + crappy guiding at that altitude - this turned out not to be an easy task.

The first night I couldn't set up the scope right. I had problems with the focus motor, had to rise the pier in order not to bump the camera in the tripod and was unable to collimate. The next night I managed to fix everything and now I assemble the system from scratch for about 30 - 45 minutes

I had luck with fixing the collimation with OCAL - was able to perfectly align the secondary and the star test showed round donuts. Luckily the stars are round all across the APS-C sensor with the 0.7x reducer as well so I guess I have found the right backfocus.

With the new scope I am deep diving into deep space.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
