Description

NGC3718 and NGC3729 are two beautiful galaxies that are located in the Ursa Major constellation. The peculiar S-shape of NGC3718's arms is thought to be due to gravitational interaction with its smaller companion, NGC3729. Both galaxies are classified as barred spiral galaxies, but as you can see in the image, their appearance does not correspond to the designation. One of the striking features of NGC3718 is the twisted dust lane that crosses the galaxy's core. Another interesting object is seen in this image just above NGC3718. This is a smaller interactive group of 5 galaxies called the Hickson 56 group. This group is much, much further away from us and is about 7 times farther away than the galaxies NGC3718 and NGC3729, which are approximately 52 million light-years away. This field harbors even smaller and fainter galaxies. I have lost count of how many of them are seen in this image. There are literally dozens of galaxies.

It has been acquired from the remote observatory Deep Sky West in Rowe New Mexico, where my dear friends and fellow fans Jim Y Linda Powell has hosted and pilot a great team.
Thank you very much, dear friends.
