Description

This object is a barred low surface brightness spiral galaxy located 90 million light years away in the constellation of Serpens at a declination of +6 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11.8 galaxy which spans 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a Milky Way size diameter of 120,000 light years.  We are looking at this galaxy about halfway between face-on and edge-on.

I like the thin bright white bar and the mottled arms that start at each bar end but go nowhere.  Blue star clouds are scattered throughout the outer disk.
