Description

Widefield of Supernova Remnant the Veil.  NASA says the explosion occurred about 10thousand years age.  The expanding shockwave is located off of a wing of Cygnus the Swan and is about 2-thousand light years distant.  The whole complex takes up about three degrees of sky from our vantage point on Earth.  That means it would take six full moons to span the distance from the bright star at the top to the lacy filaments at the bottom of the picture. Of course what is presented here as a flat image, is actually an expanding bubble formed by the shockwave from the supernova.
