Description

The Cosmic Clamshell has the official title Sharpless-2-119.
Sharpless' catalog mostly concentrates on regions of glowing Hydrogen gas (H alpha), and many of these objects are in Downtown Milky Way.
This object does not get as much love because just 4 moon widths away (2 degrees) is the North America Nebula. That is a shame, because it is almost 4 degrees x 3 degrees large (according to the calculated field of view of my imaging software). The gas is illuminated by the bright star in the middle 68 Cygnii.
I took this over several nights. In all this is a stack of 110 x 300 second frames. In more reasonable terms 9 hours and 10 minutes total exposure time.
