Cosmic fires - NGC 6995 and IC1340

After imaging NGC 6992 (in mono) I wanted to add some colour data, and decided to take in NGC 6995 and IC1340 at the other end of the Eastern Veil. This remarkable supernova remnant pulsates with ionised gases, revealing the ‘cosmic fires’ that are apparent in astro images.

I captured this using my Optolong L-eNhance filter - 50 minutes luminance (narrow band), 10 mins R, G, B respectively. Captured in Envisage, aligned in Nebulosity and processed in Startools - I had some issues with alignment, resolved once I had equalised the histograms.

As I ponder the beauty of these ‘cosmic fires’ I spare a thought for folks in California, Australia and elsewhere dealing with devastating effects and after effects of recent forest fires.

Description: Another complete re-process using ASTAP alignment, quality and stacking software to prepare the datasets before subsequent processing in Startools. This L(NBF)RGB image comprises just over 1 hour total - 40m L (120s) shot through my L-eNhance duo narrow band filter, and only 8m R, 6m G and 10m B, bringing the Ha and OIII regions in this supernova remnant alive. It was easy to process, and the stars are certainly better than the original. I resisted oversaturation, I think.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
