A few decent nights in January and February allowed me to collect nearly 34 hours of raw data on M82,
about 28 hours was used in processing this image.

Processing:
Data was weighted, registered, normalized, and integrated with Pixinsight’s WBPP. DBE was used to
remove gradients from the L and Ha masters. The RGB masters were combined and then DBE was
used on the resulting RGB image. The RGB image was then color corrected with SPCC.

The Luminance image was sharpened with BXTand had noise reduction with NXT.

A copy of the Red master and Ha master were made and stars removed. The Red data was subtracted
from the Ha, after using pixel math to remove the median sky value from the Red data. This resulting
data was then blended into the color corrected RGB image’s Red and Blue channels, resulting in a
HaRGB image.

The Luminance data was stretched and HDRMT was applied.

The HaRGB data was stretched and had a color corrected HDRMT applied by saving the original Hue
and Saturation data and combining with the HDRMT Intensity data.
The Luminance and HaRGB data were combined using LRGB combo to produce the HaLRGB image.
The HaLRGB data had SCNR applied, noise reduction, and color saturation boosted. UnSharpMask was
used to boost the RGB/K color space while LocalHistogramEqualization was used to enhance the dust
lanes.

The data was then cropped to remove stacking artifacts.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
