Description

Lowers Nebula is a faint emission nebula located in the constellation of Orion. It is situated in a region of the sky that is rich in astronomical objects, including many well-known nebulae and star clusters. The nebula is named after its discoverer, the amateur astronomer David Lower, who first detected the object in the 1960s. Lower's Nebula is located approximately 1,500 light-years away from Earth. The nebula is classified as an HII region, which means it is composed of ionized hydrogen gas that emits light in the form of reddish-pink hues. This ionization is caused by the presence of hot and massive stars, which emit intense ultraviolet radiation that ionizes the surrounding gas.The central region of Lower's Nebula is dominated by a bright and compact knot of nebulosity, which is surrounded by fainter, more diffuse gas. The shape of the nebula is irregular and asymmetric, with a number of smaller knots and filaments that suggest the presence of local instabilities and turbulence in the gas.

This image was one that I thought I would never finish. It was pieced together over many nights an hour or two at a time. My southern view is limited due to trees and anything in Orion sits low to the south for me. I am glad I was able to scratch together an image, as this object as been on my list for a while now.

Thanks for looking,
CS
Dan.
