Description

M81, also known as Bode’s galaxy, is a spiral galaxy with more than 250 Billion stars in the constellation of Ursa Major. It is located 11.8 million light-years from us with an apparent magnitude of 6.94 and a diameter of 96,000 light-years.
M81 and its companion M82 were discovered by  the German astronomer Johann Elert Bode in 1774.

I noticed a blurry spot just above M81 and thought it had to do with dust on my optics. The flats didn’t correct for it.
It seems to be no flaw but a young dwarf irregular satellite galaxy of M81, called Holmberg IX. It is interesting to search for pictures of this dwarf galaxy as taken by Hubble.
