Description

Hickson 55 is composed of a chain of five small galaxies in the constellation of the Draco.
Also know as UGC6514, four of them are very close from each other (UGC6514 « a » to « d » between 700 and 800 million light years). They have a size between 50 000 and 100 000 light years.
The last one, UGC6514 « e » is seriously more distant (1.4 to 1.5 billion light years). It is the small blue galaxy, second one from the top. So the alignment with the other galaxies from the
group is purely a hazard. Anton Arp considered that the gravity was at the origin of the formation of these groups of galaxies.

Apparent sizes of the chain: 1.25’ long
Magnitude : 15,8 to 17,4
