Description

M78 is a diffuse reflection nebula and located about 1,600 light years away in the Orion constellation.  It carries the colloquial name Casper the Friendly Ghost Nebula.  I personally don't see the resemblance, and I find it frustrating that my kids have no idea who Casper even is!

This beautiful region is often overshadowed by its more popular neighbors.  There are 17 known Herbig-Haro objects within the nebula.

I chose to go with a straight LRGB image this time.  While I have been having a ball with HaLRGB processing lately, I feel like there is enough color and detail in this image already and I think that Ha would not be additive with such a narrow field of view.

Thanks for stopping by.
