We appear to strive to render our images as they appear in nature. However, we exaggerate the colors as visual observations immediately validate, we map the colors to colors they are not, as any Hubble-palette narrow-band image will attest, and we adjust the sharpening of clouds and stars to our arbitrary visions of how they “should” look. Rarely, effectively never, will our processed images have any scientific value outside of occasionally discovering a nova. How many of those does the average imager discover per lifetime? Those of us having modest scopes—all of us—produce images that only hint at what the major observatories obtain for their research. All this is to say, we each produce pictures to please our personal views of what the Universe means to each of us. That’s not a description of cutting-edge scientific inquiry, but a hint at the meaning of art.

So, please excuse me if I occasionally offer my interpretations of the essence of the universe, as I do in this image. Thanks for looking, and commenting. By the way, a more traditional approach to this target is posted here: https://astrob.in/gjlwpl/0/
