Description

Dear friends, it's been quite a while since I last posted a photo and I've been less present on Astrobin... too much time has passed. I take this opportunity to greet all of you. This year, the weather in Calabria has become tropical: hot summers at 850 meters above sea level, and the past two months have actually been the "rainy season." I hope the African anticyclone arrives soon! Unfortunately, this is the effect of climate change. Will humanity ever understand it? I doubt it.

Let's get back to our beloved passion. I've been experiencing some issues with this highly luminous Newtonian telescope: unwanted lights and reflections, a low-quality focuser that flexes, and many other small and often frustrating problems. But I'm determined and will never give up on the quality of Skywatcher. I'm trying to improve the telescope's performance with some DIY modifications.

I decided to modify the Canon 6D by removing the LPF2, and I must say the results are exciting. The sensitivity of this camera, combined with the large full-frame sensor, makes it one of the best DSLRs for astrophotography. On the day I captured M42, I was trying to solve the focuser tilt issue, which is typical of these relatively inexpensive telescopes. I didn't have guiding enabled, and I took 75 frames of 60 seconds each without dithering, so there is unfortunately some walking noise present.
Nevertheless, when I saw the individual frames, I was amazed. It's the first time I've captured M42, and I never thought that with such a short integration time, all these details would emerge. It's incredible! Perhaps it's because I used the Meade 10" at f/10 for a long time.

In any case, I wanted to share this photo with all of you, and I hope that next year I will be able to capture it even better.I'm not as skilled as my friend @Daniel Erickson in describing all the processes that generate this amazing show. I simply gaze at this galactic wonder in awe, with the eyes of a child. My inner child is always by my side, my friends!

Wrote by my hands and brain:
I have to admit that i used ChatGPT AI for translation... It was the first and the last time i use it for translations. I thing that AI will be a brake for human evolution. It is really a dangerous thing. I was curious to see it in action and this make me really worried about the future of our childrens.  I really hope that we can limitate the use of it as the CEO of ChatGPT said and warned at the US Congress.
I will always prefer the human imperfection that is daughter of the Universe Perfection! I will try to transfer this concept to my son.
Sincerly,
Carlo
