Description

Start of the season. The first dark nights of September are always nice with the warmth and the lack of snow. I took 3 nights to shoot this, with some interruptions by Aurora Borealis.

The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is a concentration of interstellar gas and dust within the much larger ionized gas region IC 1396 located in the constellation Cepheus about 2,400 light years away from Earth. The Elephant's Trunk Nebula is now thought to be a site of star formation, containing several very young (less than 100,000 yr) stars that were discovered in infrared images in 2003.

The Garnet Star is a very luminous red supergiant, Mu Cephei is among the largest stars visible to the naked eye, and one of the largest known cool supergiants. It is a runaway star with a peculiar velocity of 80.7±17.7 km/s and has been described as a hypergiant.
