The other day, I again slipped into a traffic control. The officer immediately realized that I am not Japanese. Yes, the Japanese Police Academy is world-class. She was so very kind as to speak in simplified Japanese to make sure I would understand her instructions. After I presented my driver licence (a golden licence, by the way):

She: "Do you have your passport with you? Please show me. I must check your residency permission."

Me: "Certainly, lady officer!"

As I handed my passport to her, she turned it around and held it upside down. Well it was already dark outside.

SHe: "I see, which country are you from?"

Me: "Well, originally from Germany, but please consider me a Japanese."

She: "Yes, I know, German passport. Very good. What do you work?"

I should have replied that I am merely an IT guy, but Japanese people are deeply impressed at hearing titles, so I responded: "I am an accredited professional diploma IT specialist with MBA." An US cop would have said "hands into the air, AH", but,

She: "Oh is that true? Which company? Japanese company?"

Me: "Okidoki Semiconductor, but now I'm a freelancer."

She: "Okidoki? Really? This is a big Japanese company, very good old reputed Japanese company."

She obviously missed the news about the company's insolvency some 12 years ago, as she went:

She: "Please, do your very best for Japan."

Me: "I always do, mam".

She: "By the way, what is MBA".

Me (changing to English): "Married, but available."

In other words, when in Japan, do not under-estimate an officer half your body size. In no time you will find yourself on the ground.

I guess it was supposed to be a "speed date", since car and bike speeding has become a popular sports around here.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
