Description

This object is a rarely imaged barred spiral galaxy located 180 million light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +25 degrees. The galaxy width is 4 arc-minutes in our apparent view, which corresponds to an incredibly large diameter of 200,000 light years.

I like the distinct golden hued bar and how it contrasts with the dark regions immediately left and right of the core. I also like the two spirals arms which both extend from the upper right side of the galaxy. This lack of symmetry suggests interaction with another galaxy, but I could not spot a nearby companion.
