Description

NGC 4569 is an intermediate spiral galaxy exhibiting a weak inner ring structure about 60 million light-years away.  The star formation in NGC 4569 appears truncated. Consequently, the galaxy's spiral arms appear to be smooth and featureless.  However, its center appears to have significant nebula and star formation.  It is 113,000 light-years in diameter.  Above NGC 4569 in the image is IC 3583.  It is an irregular dwarf galaxy some 30 million light-years away.  It was once considered a companion galaxy that was interacting with NGC 4569 but due to the distance between them this is no longer considered accurate.
