Description

M94 is a 9 magnitude spiral galaxy in Canes Venatici constellation, located at a distance of about 16 million light years.
The central component of this galaxy is an early-type Sab galaxy, which shows a very bright nucleus and hints of spiral arms characterized by flocculent pattern of filament of gas and dust with some star forming regions.
Around the central component, it is visible a larger and much fainter halo which shows also some active areas: so astronomers did hypothesis that this outer ring was formed by accretion of a companion galaxy.
Several other remote galaxies are visible in the field, some of them also through M94 disk.
