Description

Last evening, I was lucky to catch a wide cloud gap, most probably the last chance in this November. Undoubtedly, the Aristarchus plateau is one of the most eye-striking lunar features which invites color photography as a bonus. The objective included capturing the touch down area of the Chinese lander Chang'e 5, a relatively young volcanic plain formation near Mons Rümker located in the northern Oceanus Procellarum (revison B: top middle). The sample collection operation of the lander will have to be completed during lunar daylight.

Never mind zooming in, the lander was still in orbit :-)



The original/final image is taken at FL=1500mm, 3ms, gain 150, 138fps, 10-bit ADC, raw8, IR-Cut filter. The images in the revision were taken with the same 2x barlow but extended to about 3x (FL=2200mm). The transparency wasn't bad, but the air was highly unstable. On top of this, I didn't catch my mount at its best in terms of tracking, but guiding would have been overdressed as clouds were checking in. A good reason for striving for maximum frame rates.
