Description

Two clusters, one relatively close and young, and the other further away and much older.    M35 is the widely scattered blue cluster in the center.   NGC 2158 is the older yellow / white cluster in the upper right quadrant.   M35 contains about 400 stars, and resides about 3800 light-years away.   NGC 2158 is around 3 times further away with unknown number of members (likely several times M35?).  It is possibly as old as a billion years or more (Wikipedia).   NGC 2158 was once thought to be a globular cluster due to it's appearance, but is now easily defined as a tight open cluster.    The pairing demonstrates nice contrast and color, sitting in a fairly rich background.
