Description

It's been enjoyable to watch the media coverage of the total solar eclipse across North America this week. And that's a good enough excuse for me to attempt another astrophotography image.

The Canis Major constellation is best known for the brightest star in our night skies (Sirius), and the magnificent Thor's Helmet emission nebula. Like Thor's Helmet, the Dolphin nebula is ionised by a massive Wolf-Rayet star in the brief pre-supernova phase of its evolution. This is my second time imaging this faint southern nebula which is barely discernible using broadband, but pops-out nicely with the use of an OIII filter.

RGB and OIII were captured a couple of years ago.

Ha was captured in recent months for the red channel.
Initial 10-minute subs were very faint, so I settled on 15-minute exposures.

Thanks for looking, and CS!
