Arecibo Radio Telescope and SETI program visit with Daughter 1998. 22 years before the catastrophic collapse

Description

In 1998 I was fortunate enough to be invited to visit the SETI program in Puerto Rico at the Arecibo radio telescope. Image A is of my daughter on the main 900 Ton instrument platform walkway suspended some 450 feet above the reflector dish.

It was an amazing trip that included a tour of the Arecibo radio telescope, personal tour of the SETI program from Seth Shostak, Lunch with the SETI team, and a CAT 4 hurricane a few days later. A memorable trip with my daughter, my parents,(now passed), and good family friends.

As many of you know the main antenna collapsed into the reflector December 1st. A tragic event in the proud history of an amazing radio telescope. I for one hope that this is but a tragic event in the continuing life of an amazing instrument.
