Description

Simeis 147 or SH2-240 was a bit of a challenge for me. In my suburban sky, little contrast was expected. Manually finding the object without goto was a pain. But that's the salt in the soup. The object was hardly recognizable on the raw data. Only the result image after calibration showed a few details.

Simeis 147 is also called spaghetti nebula. The nebula is the remnant of a supernova that occurred 30,000 to 40,000 years ago. The remains have an extent of about 3 ° in the sky. The distance is about 3,000 light-years. Simeis 147 has an extension of about 140 light years. In the center there is only one compact pulsar left (PSR J0538 + 2817).
