Taken literally, one might expect the “Veil Nebula” to be a soft gauzy texture. But, ripping away the veil, reveals an underlying tangled and turbulent texture becomes evident.

The formula for this image entailed using the RGB and the SHO to generated estimates of the pure Ha, SII, and OII lines (w/o the background radiation always present in narrowband-filter images). Those emission lines were combined with the appropriate RGB broadband filters to produce the color image. The OIII and Ha lies were combined, sharpened, and serve as the luminance channel behind the RGB image. All this was done starlessly with the aid of StarXTerminator. The stars were reintroduced using an algorithm I developed that effectively retained the calibrated star colors.

Hope you like it,
Alex
