Description

I wanted to wait until I could get to the mountains to capture this classic.  Being at 6,000' at a campground presents its own additional challenges, from both nature and technology.  One has to plan for contingencies as access to resources is limited.  The two nights spent at Mount Laguna were no exception.  The wind came up in the early morning hours, creating tracking issues and for the second night I experienced an issue with the scope mount entering slew speed.  The few times at home that my Ultima PEC experienced this issue, it was exceptionally dewy nights, but given that dew was not an issue this go-around, I'm suspecting it may have something to due with the tracking camera ST-4 being directly connected to the mount.  I recently bought a USB to ST-4 converter box, so I'll start using that method to send tracking commands to the mount in-lieu of the camera ST-4 connection.  Unfortunately, I had just crawled off to my tent around 11:00 when only 30-minutes thereafter the mount entered slew speed.  At 5:00 am the following morning as I walked up to the scope I noticed it was pointed toward the ground instead of the western horizon.  None-the-less, between the two nights I was able to capture enough quality data to make the trip more than worth it.
