Description

This low surface brightness planetary nebula is unusual in several ways. It is nearly spherical, but the central star (a subdwarf O star) is slightly off center. This may have been caused by an asymmetric ejection of mass in its nova stage, pushing the star off-center. The nebula is 4800 light years above the galactic plane, and 6800 l.y. distant. It is estimated to be 22K years old and is about 2.6 arc min in width, as seen from Earth. There are a few small galaxies scattered around the frame, even some seen through the nebula.
