Description

I had planned imaging sessions for my September trip to Cherry Springs down to the minute. Tropical depression Ida did it's best to compromise night 1. The 6 hour drive was wet to say the least with rain falling constantly from the moment I left to the moment I arrived. Thats 6 hours of driving in uninterupted rain. Rain didn't stop until about 6pm and I didn't dare start setting up until after sunset. Consequently it was well after astronomical twighlight when I began imaging cutting down the time I had to image the Lagoon and Trifid from 90 to 60 minutes. It also became aparent that Ida had stired up the atmosphere considerably degrading the seeing so conditions for imaging were not ideal.

My plan for the trip was to concentrate on imaging in narrowband and night 1 was dedicated to objects that leant themselves to 0 degree camera rotation. As the Lagoon and Trifid were setting early, they were first on the list. This is the first time I have imaged either subject with my new setup and even though this was really a test shoot, I'm reasonably pleased with the result. I had a little dificulty with what looked like a very large OTA shadow around the area where SH2-28 isn't that flats would normally correct but managed to clear it out pretty well in post processing.

REVISION 1 is a complete restack and reprocess as I discovered my calibration frames were compromised when I stacked the next subject and found the same shadows. Who knew you shouldn't take dark frames in the day no matter how well you _think_ you have covered your scope? Everyone but me probably.
