Description

So this is the very first image I have taken with my new Lunt LS80MT telescope.  I'm posting this basically for a history of where I started.  Down the road then I will have something to compare back and see where I have come.  The whole setup at the moment is a total hack.  I'm in the process of getting new piers, a mount for the C14 EdgeHD that is on order and a host of other things.  At this point, all I was hoping to accomplish was verify the scope is working, get a quick grab of the sun with the new ASI1600MM Pro camera, do a quick post process and see what I have.  To that set of goals, mission accomplished.  I did just about everything wrong you can do for taking a picture.  There was no polar alignment of the mount other than a quick WAG with my iPhone.  Tracking was the default, which is stars tracking not the sun, no flats, no motor focus just a guess with my lousy eyesight and a complete guess for exposure.  So given all of those caveat's .... I'll take it.  Just means I have a lot of head room to improve.

That all being said, I'm very impressed with the scope and the camera.  They work very will together.  I have an ASI174MM on order but have not processed any shots with it yet.  Looking forward to lots of learning and lots of fun seeing this next solar cycle head to a maximum.  Now I will have a sweet setup to get some good shots.
