I really find astro-pareidolia, but I have to say….

For the record, this image was produced without painting content onto the image or erasing it from the image, nor were masks used to bring out or suppress any features. The only operation at all like those was the removal of the stars and replacement of the stars after post-processing.

The bright nebula, LBN 7, provides a glowing backdrop to this dark molecular cloud. Apparently, LBN 7 is lit by a YSO (young stellar object) named RNO 91. The dark cloud could be the birthplace of many stars and become a bright emission nebula. I suspect mankind will be long gone by that time!

The stars in this image have been photometrically color calibrated, so the colors are not those that the star is actually emitting (as would be the case, presumably, if I used spectro-photometric color calibration). Notice that a preponderance of stars are not redish, as they would be if their light had passed through the nebula scattered across the image. Therefore, the dispersed background nebulae must be more distant than most stars. However, LDN 43 has few foreground stars at its location. It lies near to us than most of the stars. Hence, LDN appears to be a distinctly different nebula from the background nebulae.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
