Description

When the moon phase is turning into waxing gibbous from the first quarter, the Northern crater Plato and Mare Imbrium will embrace the sun as it rises from the east cliffs of Plato and Montes Apennine/Caucasia. The moment is hard to catch, though, as the prominent shadows over the plain of Plato only lasts several hours, which happens only once a month, and could be in daytime or at cloudy nights. The image was taken with a Celestron Edge 925 HD under fair seeing.
