Description

NGC 3718 is approx 52 million light-years away from us, and is flanked by NGC 3729, and a cluster of 5 more distant galaxies.  This area of the night sky also has many more distant "faint fuzzies" in the larger un-cropped image.  3718 is believed to be gravitationally affected by 3729, as they are estimated to be about 150,000 light years apart.  The beautiful blue stars stand in contrast to the red and older stars near the core of 3718, marvelously bisected by typical dust in more traditional spiral galaxies.
