Hello Starfriends,

I was at the German North Sea coast for a few days and wanted to test the dark sky. Between 4:00 and 5:00 am the summer Milky Way rises above the southeastern horizon. With an SQM value of 21.73, it is very dark here. Stars and the Milky Way are visible almost to the horizon. A cloud of fog is rolling in in the east, which is already illuminating the horizon in the south. This is the last image in a series that shows the ISS and a bright shooting star in the right part of the image.

There was a lot of moisture in the air. I couldn't attach the heating sleeve as quickly as the optics thawed.

Hallo Sterfreundinnen und -freunde,

ich war ein paar Tage an der deutschen Nordseeküste und wollte den dunklen Himmel testen. Zwischen 4:00 und 5:00 Uhr morgens erhebt sich die Sommermilchstraße über dem Südöstlichen Horizont. Mit einem SQM-Wert von 21.73 ist es hier sehr dunkel. Sterne und Milchstraße sind fast bis zum Horizont sichtbar. Im Osten wälzt sich eine Nebelwolke heran, die im Süden schon den Horizont anleuchtet. Das ist hier die letzte Aufnahme einer Serie, die einmal die ISS zeigt, sowie im rechten Teil des Bildes eine helle Sternschnuppe.

Es war sehr, sehr viel Feuchtigkeit in der Luft. Ich konnte die Heizmanschette gar nicht so schnell anbringen , wie die Optik zu taute.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
