Description

C5 - IC342 - an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Camelopardalis, a mere 11 million light-years away, or  relatively close to the Milky Way.

Despite its size and actual brightness, its location behind a dusty area of our Milky Way near the galactic equator makes it difficult to observe, leading to the nickname "The Hidden Galaxy".

Actually it can readily be detected with binoculars. If the galaxy were not so obscured, it would be visible to the unaided eye.

Image acquisition using Astro Photography Tool (APT).  Images processed with Pixinsight.
