Description

The Cygnus Wall is part of the North America Nebula (NGC 7000 or Caldwell 20), an extremely large, diffuse nebulosity covering a region more than ten times of the area of our Moon, where the Cygnus Wall spans about 20 light years or 120 trillion miles. The distance from Earth to NGC700 has long been controversial until 2020, when most astronomers accepted a value of aprox 2000 light years after Gaia’s astrometry satellite measurearement of distances to 395 stars lying within the HII region of the nebula. The data shows that the North America is situated 2,590 light years away and it stretches 90 light years north to south.
