Description

There are so many amazing images of the California Nebula here on Astrobin that it seems excessive to add one more, but what the heck. While this image of the California is nothing spectacular compared to many others here, the object itself, in real life, is a dazzling object to behold. It takes light 1500 years to get here, and about 60 years to traverse it from  end to end. The California Nebula gets much of its luminosity from hydrogen that is flourescing brightly under intense radiation from the nearby blue giant Menkib, located just off the bottom edge of this image.
