Description

This image is almost an accident and certainly unplanned. I decided to image M 33 using my Quattro 8cf, which I haven't used yet this year. Sadly the focuser wasn't set properly and slipped enough that the images were out of focus, although the Lodestar/OAG managed to guide pretty well.

The Takahashi FS60CB is mounted side-by-side and aligned with the Quattro and I decided to take a series of images to test that the backfocus on the reducer was set correctly (almost, needs probably 1-2 mm, the image is cropped).

Having nothing else to process, I decided to look at the data from the tiny Tak. With the reducer it has an effective focal length of 254 mm and a focal ratio of 4.3. With the ASI 294mm binned 1x1 the pixel scale is 1.87 arcsec/pixel, which as almost exactly the Dawes limit (1.93 arcsec).

If the clouds clear, I'll add some more data, particularly Ha and OIII, but I'm amazed at what the 60 mm scope managed to do in about 3 hours.

The acquisition details are:
Lum: 48x120s, Red: 18x120s, Green: 15x120s, Blue: 15x120 s; all were binned 1x1; calibration was with 50 darks and 40 flats and 40 dark flats for each filter.
