Description

I planned  on a long integration time to get a balanced image in S-II, Ha and O-III.  I was lucky to get more than a few clear nights in January and February without too much wind or moon.  NGC 2264 is strong in Ha and a fair amount of signal in O-III and S-II.  It's fun seeing the bright Ha subs roll-in with high signal and  low noise so it's difficult to switch to O-III and S-II and spend valuable clear sky time on a weaker signal.  At the end of January I began to process and found that I was needing more S-II subs so I added a couple of nights of S-II collection in February to give some nominal balance to each channel.  I was pleased to see some representation in the final image of S-II,  Ha and O-III in the red ,  green and blue color channels respectively.  I also collected a fair amount of RGB for the stars but the RGB signal from the nebula regions were faint compared to the overwhelming signal of the narrowband SHO.  The final image is SHO with RGB stars.
