Description

it has been way too long...What happened is that I got tired of dealing with the poor guiding of my CGX mount. It was awesome at the beginning, but then something happened with one of the worms, and things went down from there...I decided that I love this hobby way too much and that therefore I needed to get a high-end mount, which would make justice to my awesome stellarvue scope. After some research, I settled on the Paramount MyT, from software bisque. I was not disappointed with its beauty and impressed about its potential capabilities. What I did not count on, was with the steep learning curve that was to go from the very easy though somewhat over simplistic ASIair, to the more complex but powerful SkyX (after all I have just under 2 years of astrophotography experience). Thanks to a lot of studying and help from some fellow astronomers (here I have to mention Rodolphe Pineaux, who was incredibly generous in helping me set up my new system), I am in a climbing route, but with still lots to learn. In any case, this is the first image I was able to get with my new set up (hopefully way more to come, clear skies permitting).

The Pleiades, also known as the seven sisters (Maia, Alcyclone, Astrope, Calaeno, Taygete, Electra and Merope), is a star cluster relatively close to Earth (still, ~450 light years away). It contains blue stars that were formed about 100 million years ago. Some of the stars are surrounded by dust cloud present in the interstellar medium. According to Wikipedia, the star cluster is supposed to last another 250 million light years, after which they will disperse, due to gravitational interactions.

The Pleiades in Greek mythology are seven divine sisters derived from their mother, Pleione, the daughter of Okeanos and Tethys, the Titan god and goddess of water, which protects sailor vessels. It happens that Orion fell in love with Pleione, but unfortunately, through a misguided strategy to pursue love (no "me too" movement had emerged yet), he attacked her. Zeuss, trying to protect Pleione and her daughters, changed them into stars, which fly away from Orion to this day. Nevertheless,  a different interpretation comes about from the Ancient Mayans, which called the cluster “tsab”, or the rattle of the snake, which appeared in the sky as the harvest approached. If the stars looked clear, as opposed to “blurry”, it meant that they would have a clear atmosphere, sunny skies, and a good crop…of course, this is just an interpretation from current archeologists.
