Description

Sh2-132 (AKA as the Lion nebula), is primarily a large emission nebula located in the constellation of Cepheus at a distance of nearly 3200 parsecs (nearly 10,000 light-years). Massive stars are responsible for ionizing the gas in this region, particularly, two Wolf-Rayet stars designated HD 211564 and HD 211853. Wolf-Rayet stars are massive, hot and have a white-blue coloration. These stars are at least 20 times more massive than our Sun and can be hundreds of thousands, possibly millions of times brighter! Additionally, they tend to be eruptive and possess extremely high solar winds. Processed using the Hubble palette.
